SHIMBA HILLS

NO OF DAYS : 1 : MOMBASA OR DIANI OR BAMBURI, SHIMBA HILLS

FROM USD 200 Per Person

DAY 1 : Shimba Hills National Reserve

Pickup from your hotel in Mombasa, north Coast or South Coast and enjoy a ride to the Shimba Hills. In the reserve, elephants and sable antelopes leisurely patrol. It is one of the remaining largest coastal rain forest. This reserve has the last breeding herd of the rare sable antelope in Kenya. The vanishing rain forest antelopes are on the priority list of nationally endangered species in Kenya and the organization is keen on seeing that a national conservation strategy is developed to guide all efforts to conserve the species for posterity. Sable antelopes are highly matriarchal in their social structure and congregate in herds of 15 to 20 individuals and the most dominant female in the herd becomes their leader.

Spend the day out in the African bush wat hing elephants and other wild animals and birds. The reserve is home to over 500 Elephants in just 193 sq km. Due to overpopulation 150 Elephants had to be relocated to Tsavo East. Elephant Hill viewpoint is ideal for watching the herds moving through the trees.

Enjoy a scenic view and fresh water of Sheldrick waterfalls. Lunch stop at Shimba Hills Lodge. Embark on a game drive enroute towards Southern gate to exit and drive back to your Beach or City Hotel.
